Now here’s something you don’t see every day. There’s a house at the corner of Kungsgatan and Norra Esplanaden in Växjö I just love taking pictures of, since the front door is ornate, with elaborate Fin de Siècle metal-work. The owners put out a small Christmas tree on their front steps every year, so I finally made time to stop there one day and focus on their tree. The star at the top of their little tree is just so delightfully wonky.
However, it looks more interesting with Photoshop effects, I thought, which make the whole Christmas theme much more surreal and modernist. I think this is at least part of what I think of as the Swedish aesthetic—the juxtaposition of casual on formal; simple, bright colors; and a little old-fashioned charm thrown in for good measure.
