There was something about the perfect blue sky that just made this blue cottage seem so cheerful, especially with the lilacs in bloom. Instead of ‘blue on blue’ equalling heartache, these blues are cool and summery. The blue and white of the cottage also mirrors the blue and white of the sky, which I just love.
Photoshopping the image brought out some texture that’s otherwise a little hard to see on a bright sunny day. Even using a polarizing lens doesn’t let you see the grain of the wood and the distinct petals of the lilacs, but the most interesting thing to me is that Photoshop almost turns this photograph into a drawing or a print. I do tend to love hand-made prints, and I really wish I had the ability to make them myself, so this is as close as I can come to creating my own woodblock print, or lithograph.
